Description of saffiano leather

These days, saffiano leather is widely used and has Italian origins. The renowned company "Prada" is the owner of the "Saffiano" patent. The brand first introduced a handbag with a distinctive embossing in 1913. Picture:

Bags gained uniqueness and functionality from their intriguing texture. The saffiano surface is resistant to wear and scratches. Products made of leather can last ten years or longer while still looking great. The material was valued even back then. It was used to make wallets, purses, and other leather goods.

However, the true "saffiano boom" happened in 2012, when a number of international brands unveiled a collection of accessories featuring the distinctive embossing. Women’s hearts responded instantly to handbags by designers like Moschino, DKNY, and Michael Kors. Women of all ages bought them in large quantities because they were desired and dreamed about.

Safyanic skin – natural material or not?

Safyano is first and foremost real leather. In line with the definition:

Satfiano skin is a textured calf skin that is impervious to abrasions and a variety of impurities.

The material gains high strength and resistance to abrasion and scratches because of its texture, which features small embossments on a diagonal pattern. However, with that finish, it resembles leatherette. In addition to not being particularly soft to the touch, some people think the rough surface looks "cheap."

It should be remembered that fake natural saphandic skin is common. In 2012, a brief surge in popularity led to the creation of materials with a comparable texture. Numerous people started to distinguish the Safyan effect in this way:

If the material is simply identified as "Saffiano," hot embossing was used to apply a pattern or "scar."

By the way, book covers and bindings have a similar embossing. This is a polyvinyl or polyamide substitute (leatherine or other) rather than real leather.

Composition

Sheepskin is used less frequently than calfskin when making saffiano leather.

Cattle calfskin is prized for its exceptional quality and high value. It is pliable, resistant to cracking in cold weather, resilient at corners, long-lasting, and able to support large weights. The strength of sheepskin is marginally less than that of calfskin. It is widely used to make pricey bags and wallets and is identical in all other respects.

Here’s how saffiano is made:

  1. Animal skins are soaked and cleaned of dirt.
  2. Ashing and derricking are performed – hair removal and wool shedding.
  3. The subcutaneous fat layer is removed (fleshing).
  4. The raw materials are delimed, thoroughly washed.
  5. Then comes tanning.
  6. The finished semi-finished product is leveled in thickness, folds are smoothed out, and dyed.
  7. Saffiano embossing is performed on a special machine at a temperature of 160-170 degrees.
  8. At the end, the front surface is covered with finish waxy means.

Defective skors can be used to lower the price of safyanic leather goods. They can be hidden with hot embossing. Polyurethane substitutes have the "Safyano" effect.

Characteristic

The substance has many advantageous qualities. He is valued for his wear resistance above all else, though. Features of skin from Safya:

  • strong;
  • dense;
  • resistant to cuts, scratches, abrasion;
  • has a little elasticity;
  • keeps the form well;
  • resistant to moisture and pollution.

There aren’t many drawbacks to the content, and they’re all primarily personal:

  • Safyano poorly passes the air. High density and embossing worsen air circulation. In shoes and clothes, it may not be too comfortable, stuffy. Combining with natural suede, skin and fabric saves the situation. But, it is worth noting that shoes, boots and jackets made of saffiano are rare. Leather is mainly used for the production of leather goods.
  • Saffiano leather is not like genuine leather. This is true. Embossing completely erases the “face” of the skin – I am the pattern. The finish also destroys the characteristic leather smell. Nevertheless, many find Safyano very attractive and original.

The material’s one positive drawback is that it’s simple to mistake natural Safyanic skin for a polyurethane substanter Safyano.

Saffiano leather is a popular option for luxury goods because of its exceptional water resistance, durability, and fashionable crosshatch pattern. But over time, the protective layer may deteriorate and expose a less appealing surface beneath, and its stiff texture may lack the softness of other leathers. When choosing saffiano leather products, customers can make more informed decisions if they are aware of these advantages and disadvantages.

Safyan bags – what they are?

Saffer Skin has been actively incorporating Michael Kors into his collections for a number of years. The brand started to be connected, if you will, to Safyano. There’s a model for every taste: crossbodies, wallets, clutches, everyday bags, and formal office bags.

Safyano’s skin can be found on purses from well-known fashion labels like Paul Smith, Cerruti, Furla, Prada, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. Usually, they use various materials to create the same model of bag.

Embossed leather is not limited to high-end labels. Relatively small businesses like Fabi, Baldinini, Le Tanneur, Longchamp, Enquer, Brooks Brothers, Montblanc, and others have collections of bags and accessories made of it. Saffiano leather belts and backpacks are also produced. It is occasionally mixed with additional materials.

Reviews

Products made from saffiano leather are for beginners. The contradictory reviews on the Internet lead to this conclusion:

Victoria M.

"I had no idea that my first purchase of a Michael Kors saffiano leather bag was a wise investment. I have invested 10,000 rubles. Five years later, the bag still looks brand new. True, but I can replace it with two other bags. However, it doesn’t seem like the condition will improve if you wear this one item every day. Although I’m not sure how they do it, the high cost is definitely justified by the quality.

Natalia Klimenko:

"A really nice bag—I’d say indestructible. It washes well and doesn’t rub. Regarding authenticity, a leather factory worker stated that the quality of fake goods nowadays is so high that a layperson "wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in real life."

Amina

"Well-made—that much is true. However, I still don’t think my saffiano leather Donna Karan is all that great. It "reminds me too much of polyurethane."

Arisa:

"I was really disappointed when I received a Michael Kors bag recently. I have always loved leather scents. Furthermore, this saffiano has no scent at all. It’s because of the special treatment, as far as I can tell. It’s clear that the leather is authentic and of high quality. Its ability to maintain its shape pleased me. It is suitable for you to wear. However, there was no "wow" factor.

And what about saffiano boots?

Saffiano boots are well-known to many thanks to historical movies and novels. "Good fellows," merchants, princes, and members of the affluent class flaunted themselves in them. The boots had an attractive appearance: they were red, multicolored, gold-embroidered, frequently lined with iron horseshoes, and had an upturned toe. We called women’s boots "morocco." They were considered a luxury by commoners.

A unique kind of leather called morocco (spelling "sofyan" incorrectly) was used to sew boots. In line with the definition:

Morocco is a traditional kind of leather that is brightly colored after being vegetable-tanned from goat skins. Not produced at this time.

Morocco was named after the Moroccan city of Safi, according to one version. The primary material used to make babushi, or shoes without backs, the national footwear of Morocco, was embossed morocco. The material was transported to Russia from other nations in one way or another. Their own production opened later, in 1666. The technology was extremely sophisticated:

  1. Goat skins were soaked in water, and then in ash pits.
  2. After the hair began to separate, it was driven off on a block.
  3. The skins were returned back to the ash pit for 1-2 weeks to form a nazhor.
  4. The raw material was fleshed, and the front side was carefully shaved and brought to smoothness with a stone.
  5. At the next stage, the canvas was washed under running water in special rotating barrels.
  6. For an impeccable type of “face”, the skin was placed in a wheat jelly, washed and passed through several vats.
  7. Then the plant was tanned by the Sumy.
  8. After tanning, the safyans were stained in bright colors. Dyes used natural – vegetable or animals (for example, koshenic worm). To resist the color of the skin, the skin was pulled out with a warm solution of tin of chloride or clay.
  9. Finally, glossy was introduced on painted and dried skin. The surface was smeared with a mixture of dye, whipped egg proteins, linseed oil and forcefully passed the glass cylinder.

Occasionally, a drawing is applied to the skin using a roller. Safyannaya boots were extremely expensive and regarded as the best shoes.

Seldom was safyan tied with furniture and used to create books upon books.

Reference to the literary content:

  • "Put on morocco boots with carved patterns of all sorts of flowers". Gogol, "Dead Souls".
  • "Like girls, in smart headdresses of yellow, blue and pink hair, on top of which a gold braid was tied, in thin shirts, embroidered along the entire seam with red silk and studded with small silver flowers, in morocco boots with high iron horseshoes, smoothly, like peacocks, and with a noise like a whirlwind, they galloped in a turtledove". Gogol, "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka".
  • "The wide red morocco sofa obviously served as Rogozhin"s bed". Dostoevsky, "The Idiot".
  • "These books in soft covers made of delicate green morocco are still with me". Kuprin, "Sentimental Novel".

These days, the only places to find Moroccan-made goods are museums and ethnic fairs. They have a place in history.

One notable quality of saffiano leather is its resilience to stains and scratches. This makes it a well-liked option for wallets, handbags, and other frequently used items. Any product gains a sophisticated appearance and a dash of elegance and sophistication from the distinctive crosshatch pattern.

Saffiano leather isn’t flawless, though. It lacks the inherent softness of other types of leather and has a stiff texture that not everyone finds appealing. Furthermore, because of the protective layer coating, it doesn’t acquire the beautiful patina that some leather enthusiasts adore.

In conclusion, saffiano leather combines fashion and functionality, but it might not be to everyone’s taste for a softer, more organic feel. You can determine whether this is the best material for your needs by balancing its advantages and disadvantages.
