You must measure the crib’s short side in order to determine the size of the pillows. Typically, pillows are square in shape, with sides that are half this size. However, you have the option to make them rectangular and increase the height as you see fit.

When creating a cutting pattern for the pillow, allow 15 mm on all sides.

Cut out the pattern carefully following the lines.

With the front side facing up, fold the fabric in half and align the pattern end to end with the fold line. We use pins to secure this position.

Take out the pins and fold the cloth in half, wrong side facing out. For the ties, cut 30 cm-long strips of satin ribbon (you can adjust the length if necessary). Insert the ribbon, folded in half, into the corners of the area where layers of fabric meet.

Keep in mind that the workpiece should contain the longer portion of the ribbon. Remember that there are 15 mm allowances all the way around. The ties should be placed in the corners of the side’s true contour, not reaching the allowances. Use pins to secure the ribbon. To ensure that the needle can easily come free from the pin during sewing without breaking, it should be positioned perpendicular to the machine stitch that will be made.

After basting, stitch all four sides and the lower half of the side.

Using the remaining opening, pour filler into the cover. Filler should be added evenly but not too firmly. For the baby’s comfort, the side should be supple.

Close the remaining hole manually or with hidden stitches using a sewing machine.

Give it a flat shape by ironing the completed side. The end result will be a product that looks tidy and maintains its shape.

How to sew bumpers for a crib for newborns

Let’s begin by creating a pattern. We’ll need an A4 sheet of paper for this. On the right side of the sheet, draw a vertical line. We take successive measurements of 4.5 cm, 4.0 cm, 3 cm, and 4 cm from it to the left side. Through these points, draw vertical lines.

We measure the height of each vertical from the sheet’s bottom edge. 18 cm to the right of the sheet’s edge, followed by 19 cm, 22.5 cm, 28.5 cm, and 31.5 cm to the right. Use a smooth, concave pattern line to join the dots. Draw a convex line to the far left vertical, centered on the photo, from the highest point.

To create the owl’s body pattern, sketch a 16-centimeter square and cut it out.

Sketch the beak pattern as a rhombus, with a large diagonal of 5.5 cm and a smaller diagonal of 4 cm. Draw a circle measuring Ø7 cm for the eyes and Ø3.5 cm for the pupil.

Draw the wing’s contours directly on the folded patterns of the head and body. The second vertical line from the left should mark the end of the maximum width. Take off the wing template and place it on another sheet.

Now that the pattern is prepared, we can begin sewing.

Pin the patterns of the owl’s head and body after folding the fabric into two layers. Please take note that we have only drawn half of the pattern; therefore, we apply the middle line of the pattern to the fabric’s fold. With seam allowances, cut out.

Using the same method, cut out the second piece.

Cut out twice as many of the fabric pieces for the wings and eyes. Cut felt for the pupils and beak.

Sew the eyes on with a zigzag stitch after pinning them onto the main piece. Next, using a machine or by hand, sew on the pupils and beak using a regular stitch. Use a zigzag stitch to affix the wings. Press every seam.

The main pieces should be folded right sides together. Cut two 60 cm long pieces of ribbon for ties. Put them into the pillow’s side seams after folding them in half. Leave a space unoccupied by sewing the product around the edges.

Flip the cover over, align all the edges, and press firmly.

Filler should be added and distributed evenly. Sew the exposed space.

To assemble it, you’ll need:

• fabric with elastic properties;
• filler;
• threads, sewing tool.

How to sew bumpers for a crib

Strands are used to weave the braid. We cut out a rectangular blank for each of them. Its length is three times the length of the upcoming braid, and its width is 13 cm. Next, for weaving purposes, we will shape each strip into a circular strand.

Leaving an opening for stuffing, fold the strip in half inside out, and machine stitch, preferably using an overlock.

Turn the component inside out and add filler. Close the last of the opening. In the same way, we create two more strands.

You can create more strands if you’d like to weave a braid. The braid will be more voluminous and unique the more bundles used to make the bumpers.

Using two different colors of fabric, we cut out two large pieces. Dimensions are the crib’s length times side height. We also took out two short pieces. Their measurements match the crib’s width times the side height. We leave 15 mm of allowance on all the pieces’ perimeters.

We cut out 10 strips for the ties, which is equal to 3 pieces for each long piece and 2 pieces for each side piece.

We unfold, iron, and fold each strip in half.

We turn the long side sections along the incorrect side to face the strip’s center. After that, iron the folded half of the strip. The strip’s folded edge is what we get. Stitch it.

Tie one tie in the middle of the longer side of the larger part and pin the other ties to the front side of the outer parts of the bum at the corners.

With the right sides together, fold the outer and inner sections of the side, pin, and stitch. Leave a space unoccupied by sewing the pieces around the edge. We turn the part inside out through it.

Using the padding polyester, cut out the inner sections for the side. Their dimensions must match the side blanks, less allowances.

Place the polyester padding inside the pillowcase. Close the holes by hand using concealed stitches. It’s faster and simpler to sew with a machine.

A side made of composite parts treated with piping

For creating the sides, you’ll need:

• cotton fabric in three colors – for the outer and inner sides of the product and for the ties;
• filler – sheet padding polyester;
• cotton cord;
• threads, sewing tool.

Description

We take measurements of the crib’s length, width, and necessary side height and record them. Using two different colors of fabric, we cut out six identical pieces. Sizes: the crib’s width divided by the side height. We provide allowances of 15 mm all the way around each part.

We cut out twenty-four strips for the ties. We unfold, iron, and fold each strip in half.

On the incorrect side, we fold the long side cuts to the strip’s center. Next, we iron and fold the strip in half. We receive the strip’s folded edge, which we stitch.

Along the bias thread, we mark the necessary number of bias tapes that are 4-5 cm wide (ideally with a small margin).

They are stitched together into a single, lengthy piece.

Fold the strips in half and insert the cord inside to create the piping.

The cloth is pinned along the cord. Using this zipper foot operation, we sew the piping. The needle should be inserted into the material as close to the cord as feasible when stitching.

At the corners, we pin the ties to the front side of the bum’s outer sections.

We pin or baste the piping along the front side around the perimeter of the outer part. Keep in mind that the piping should extend precisely along the seam line beyond the part’s boundaries.

We notch the piping allowances in the rounding areas.

With the right sides together, we fold the side’s outer and inner sections, pin, and stitch.

We leave an open space between the parts that we sew around the edge. Through it, we’ll turn the covers inside out. We trim the extra space at the corners.

We used the padding polyester to cut out the inner sections for the side. Their dimensions should match the side blanks less the allowances.

Inside the pillowcase, we place the polyester padding.

We use hidden stitches to hand-sew up the holes.
