How to sew a wrist pincushion with your own hands: master class

Pillow

From the fabric, cut out two circles with a diameter of 10 cm and a width of 10 cm. The strip’s length ought to match your wrist’s circumference plus three to four centimeters.

Sew the circles together, leaving a small opening, after folding them face to face. reducing the margin.

After flipping the workpiece over, firmly pack it full of holofiber. Close the last opening by hand using a blind stitch.

After tying a knot at the end of a strong thread, insert the needle into the center of the round workpiece. Throw the thread over the cushion’s edge and insert the needle into the center, making sure to tighten it tightly on the opposite side. Continue doing this until the cushion has eight equal segments, or petals. Cut the thread and tie a knot.

Select the side that appears more organized, then stitch a button into the cushion’s middle.

Bracelet

Iron the edges of the rectangular workpiece after folding it in half lengthwise to conceal the cuts. Sew the bracelet all the way around.

Attach a tiny Velcro piece by sewing it to one bracelet edge and the second piece to the other.

Sew the bracelet and flower cushion together. The hand pincushion is prepared!

DIY Sewing Machine Pincushion

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • two small pieces of fabric – one-color and one-color;
  • one large button;
  • two regular toothpicks;
  • half a spool of regular sewing thread;
  • a small piece of thick cardboard for the base of the machine;
  • filler for stuffing (holofiber, synthetic padding or cotton wool);
  • sewing threads;
  • pins;
  • scissors.

How to sew a needle case with your own hands: master class

Initially, we will have a sewing machine-shaped pattern for an odd needle case:

Next, we must sew the two base pieces together, attach the upper part to one half, and use pins to secure a piece of cloth to the sewing machine’s center. Although it’s optional, skipping this step will result in a "skinny" needle case.

We now begin sewing, turning the piece inside out after sewing or stitching one side of the workpiece first.

At this point, we place the cardboard inside the sewing machine’s base. It is carefully cut to fit the pattern’s dimensions.

Next, insert holofiber into the needle bed’s upper and lower portions.

Sew the needle bed’s top section to the stand with care. Place the first toothpick where the needle is supposed to be and the second one where the spool is supposed to be attached. We wind your choice of color threads onto half of the spool and stitch on a button to cover the wheel.

Pincushion "Elephant"

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • thick cotton fabric;
  • matching lace;
  • "Iris" threads;
  • black beads for eyes;
  • a piece of felt;
  • sewing threads;
  • needle;
  • scissors;
  • marker;
  • filler (cotton wool or holofiber).

Sew an elephant: step-by-step master class

Print the pattern first.

We now transfer it to the fabric by folding it in half lengthwise, applying the cut-out pattern, and tracing it with a pencil or marker. With very little room left over for stuffing the product, we cut out the baby elephant while accounting for seam allowances and stitch it all the way around.

Without touching the stitching, cut zigzag notches along the edges with regular scissors or special zigzag scissors.

Insert the workpiece backwards.

Starting from the trunk, firmly pack filler into the future pincushion.

Make a knot in a taut piece of cord, insert the needle into the pincushion at the proper spot, remove the cord, and fasten it.

After the cord has been tied, fluff up the tip to create a tassel.

Lastly, use a blind stitch to join the elephant’s body.

Now, using leftover felt, cut out the ears.

Sew the ear with an overcast stitch along the outside using iris thread that matches the felt.

Use the same overcast stitch to sew the elephant’s ear. Don’t overlook the details of the symmetrical arrangement as you repeat the process with the second ear.

Thread a black thread through a needle and insert it into the desired eye locations. Use the same thread to embroider eyelashes and sew on beads.

DIY fabric pincushion “Pumpkin”

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • motley bright orange fabric with two different patterns;
  • a piece of green fabric or felt for a leaf;
  • brown flat cord for a twig;
  • orange and green sewing threads;
  • needle;
  • filler (holofiber or cotton wool);
  • scissors.

How to sew a pumpkin-shaped pincushion: step-by-step master class

Using the orange thick fabric, cut out two circles with the same diameter but different patterns.

Each circle is folded in half, then cut into two rugs. Each rug is then folded in half again and cut. We shall thus receive eight "quarters." Each new circle is created by combining the blanks in such a way that it has four pieces—two pieces made of different fabrics.

Iron the seam allowances after sewing the quarters together. Sew the two circles together, placing them face to face, allowing enough space to turn the pillow inside out and stuff it.

Stuff the pincushion by turning it inside out and using a blind stitch to close the hole.

The pumpkin must then be cut into slices. To accomplish this, pull the circle’s edges together with a decorative stitch made with a thick thread. Cut the pumpkin in half, first in four, then in eight.

Using green felt or fabric, cut out a small leaf (if using fabric, sew two leaves together without stuffing). This is how we begin decorating the pincushion. Using scissors, cut off a small piece of brown ribbon and twist it into a spiral. Once a twig and a leaf are sewed into the pumpkin, you have a vibrant pincushion or pumpkin toy.

Practical Hand Pincushion "Flower"

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • a small piece of yellow felt;
  • a piece of thick blue cotton fabric;
  • a small piece of wide elastic;
  • blue sewing thread;
  • a piece of thick cardboard for patterns;
  • holofiber for stuffing the center of the flower.

How to sew a pincushion for a hand: a step-by-step master class

Stage one

To make a pin cushion by hand, keep the patterns:

After cutting them out, place them on thick plastic or cardboard. Next, cut six 8 by 11-centimeter squares of thick blue cotton. Fold each in half lengthwise, inside out, and trace the contours onto the fabric using the petal pattern.

Six of these elements should be cut out, keeping in mind the seam allowances as you cut along the marked contour.

Stage two

Using a longer thread, fold the petal in half lengthwise with the wrong side facing inside, and then basting stitch by hand next to the cutting line.

After that, we must secure the thread to prevent it from reverting to its starting position by pulling it as tightly as we can to form a petal. We repeat this process with each of the remaining blank petals using the same thread.

This is the final flower that we obtained. Using a subtle stitch (one at the start and one at the finish of the chain), we secure the two outer petals.

Step three

Using a piece of yellow felt, cut out the largest circle possible; it should have an 8 cm diameter. Leaving the thread with the needle, we basting stitch along the circle’s edge.

Tightly pack the holofiber into the newly formed "bag" and tighten the thread as much as you can on the felt blank. Keep the thread intact, but secure it. Using it, stitch the center to the petals using a blind stitch as follows:

Step four

Now let’s begin sewing the pincushion bracelet.

At this point, we’ll need a wide elastic band measuring 2.5 by 6 cm, a piece of thin plastic, and a rectangular piece of fabric measuring 6.5 by 20 cm. The bracelet’s fabric length is chosen on an individual basis! Measure your wrist’s circumference and add 2 cm for seam allowances.

Transfer the markings onto felt and cut out the blank using a round pattern with a diameter of 5 cm. This piece, which will be positioned in between the flower and the bracelet, will act as its backing.

We cut one circle out of plastic (or cardboard) that is four centimeters in diameter. Here, a basic plastic water bottle will do. This particular detail is necessary to prevent needle punctures to your hand when using the pincushion.

Stitch the two long sides of the fabric rectangle together, fold it in half lengthwise with the right side inside, and turn it right side out. After straightening the bracelet, use a hot iron to iron it. Stitch a 5-centimeter-diameter felt circle into the fabric strap’s center. First, stitch the elastic to one of the strap’s short sides, and then to the other.

Sew the flower to the base (a yellow felt circle sewn to the bracelet) using a blind stitch, being careful to tuck the plastic or cardboard blank inside.

Pincushion in the form of a hat

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • a sheet of thick cardboard;
  • a piece of any fabric (we recommend using knitwear);
  • circle cutter or simple scissors;
  • needle;
  • sewing threads;
  • holofiber;
  • vintage ribbons;
  • sewing pins for decoration;
  • small decorative flowers;
  • glue gun or just fabric glue.

Sewing a pincushion hat: master class

First, use thick cardboard to cut out a round template that is 10.5 cm in diameter.

Here are two circles of cloth, one measuring 22 cm in diameter and the other 14 cm.

Sew the fabric together according to the picture, neatly folding the edges as you go. You should have no trouble with this step if you are using elastic fabric.

We now use a 14-cm-diameter circle and a small amount of holofiber.

Sew four opposite edges together first, and then sew the entire thing together.

Join and stitch the cloth.

Join the hat’s two sections together.

Using decorative pins or a glue gun, secure the ribbon to the base.

Put the flowers where the photo shows them to:

All set, the hat is prepared!

Pincushion "Mannequin" with your own hands

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • a piece of thick fabric;
  • synthetic padding or holofiber for stuffing;
  • a Chinese stick 22-23 cm (as a substitute you can use a regular pencil);
  • a large spool of thread or something else, the main thing is that the stand is stable;
  • fabric glue.

Sewing a mannequin: master class

Initially, we create a full-size mannequin template and adhere it onto the material.

We then get a Chinese stick ready. We wind a strip of fabric smeared with glue in the areas where the mannequin’s hips and chest should be, as seen in the picture below, to prevent it from twisting and sliding off the stick.

Just the sides and darts are machine or hand stitched; zigzag notches are made on the bends.

The workpiece is turned inside out, a Chinese stick is inserted, and holofiber is tightly packed into the part. To make the neck fit the wooden base more securely, we fold and sew it.

A tiny hole is made in the bottom, precisely in the center, and a stick is strung through it before the bottom is sewn to the mannequin’s main fabric portion. Put the stick into the previously thoroughly glue-greased spool. The dollhouse is prepared!

It can be adorned if you’d like. Just wrap a bright satin ribbon around the stick and tie a tiny bow around its neck. Adorn the pincushion’s body with lace or fabric.

DIY felt "Cactus" pincushion

We will require the following equipment and supplies for our work:

  • Scraps of colorful fabric for the pot;
  • white and orange felt for the flower;
  • lace;
  • sea pebbles for the pot;
  • holofiber, synthetic padding or any other filler;
  • a sheet of thick cardboard;
  • a small paper cup;
  • silicone glue;
  • scissors;
  • sewing threads;
  • needle.

How to sew a felt cactus: a step-by-step master class for beginners

Step one

Create the cactus-pincushion’sbasefirst. Slice off the bottom half of a small paper cup so that it can be used for work. After adding glue to the cup and adding sea pebbles or another heavy filler, cover the pot with a cardboard circle that has been cut out.

It’s time to sew a cover for the cardboard pot using a thick, colorful piece of cotton and attach it to the cup with glue. Tie a ribbon or lace bow in the fabric’s color around the upper edge.

Step two

We are now stitching the actual cactus. Cut out eight blanks in the shape seen in the below photo from green felt:

Sew six blanks together, two at a time, using a basic overcast stitch to create three double parts.

Sew every blank together in the following manner:

The final two must then be sewn to the outer edge patterns.

Overlock all the remaining edges loosely, leaving a small opening at the top of the cactus for stuffing the pincushion with holofiber (you can also use regular cotton wool or synthetic padding instead of holofiber).

One possible solution is to stuff the cactus itself more firmly or use a Chinese sushi stick for support. The flower should retain its shape and have as much volume as possible.

Sew all the components of the pincushion using an overcast stitch, and cover the upper portion of the flower with a square piece of green felt.

Give the cactus its proper, natural shape by securely tying it crosswise with a thick green thread.

Step three

Let’s get to work on the ornamental flower now. Cut one brush and two sharp-petaled flowers out of white felt. Using orange felt, cut out a small circle and cut it all the way around.

Next, position a white brush in the middle of the white flowers, followed by an orange circle. Using our blank, form a bud shape and stitch the flower.

Stitch the ornament straight onto the pincushion.

Attach the sewed cactus to the pot using glue, and embellish the "soil" with seashells, beads, or seed beads.

That’s it; the felt cactus pincushion is now prepared to make you happy while you work.
