How to sew a round decorative cushion
Any room’s interior can be beautifully decorated with round sofa pillows. It works well as a floor seat and complements both a sofa and a bed. There are numerous ways to sew round decorative pillows, but for the purposes of this discussion, we will only look at one method: using shredded multicolored fabric.
Sew a round cushion with your own hands: master class
Stage first
One large button and several colored, uniformly dense pieces of fabric are needed for sewing.
The pattern is created first. Draw a circle whose diameter matches the finished cushion’s diameter on a little piece of Whatman paper. This circle is divided into twelve equal sectors, and once one of them is cut out, the pattern is complete! We apply it to the fabric scraps and outline it twice: once using a straight line that clearly follows the contour, and again accounting for one centimeter seam allowance on all sides. Twelve of these multicolored pieces will be obtained:
Stage two
Let’s get right into the sewing. Take two parts, fold them face to face, and stitch them together along one of the long sides to accomplish this. We draw a line and retreat three millimeters from the boundary. length-standard stitches.
After flipping the cloth over, use a hot iron to press the seam. We stitch the remaining slices in pairs in the same manner:
Subsequently, we stitch together three sets of two pieces, yielding two semicircles:
Sew two semicircles together, matching the faces, starting from the wrong side. Using a hot iron, carefully iron all of the seams.
Step three
Let’s work on the pillow’s back now. It can be a single color one-piece or the same as the front. Since you are already proficient in sewing the side with sectors, let’s examine the second choice.
Therefore, we take a piece of fabric that is only one color, apply the completed one-piece front part to it, draw a pencil outline around it, and then cut it out while accounting for the seam allowances.
Next, take another piece of fabric and cut a strip the length of which equals the front portion’s circumference and the width of which equals the pillow’s desired volume. Attach the strip to the front portion as follows:
Next, stitch the strip to the back, allowing a small opening for cushion stuffing.
After carefully sewing up the opening, turn the pillow inside out and stuff it full of holofiber.
Stitch a button into the pillow’s center using a long needle and sturdy nylon threads.
That’s it, the spherical couch pillow is prepared!
Making your own ornamental sofa cushions is an easy and enjoyable way to update your living area. With more than 25 DIY options, you can add a creative touch to your home decor with simple-to-follow ideas that range from sophisticated to whimsical.
How to sew a decorative "shaggy" pillow
Any dull interior will be much revived by a "shaggy" pillow! Even for a novice, sewing it is not too difficult. If you enjoy this model, make sure to give it a try.
Sew a decorative "shaggy" pillow: master class
Stage one
Any soft fabric that doesn’t crumble when cut and cotton fabric in the same color for the base are needed to sew a decorative pillow for a sofa. Needless to say, we’ll need some patience, scissors, a sewing machine, and threads.
Initially, the soft material is drawn and cut into strips as follows:
Subsequently, for small rectangular sections:
Cut one piece of cotton into two equal-sized square or rectangular pieces.
Draw vertical lines along one of these sections, keeping a distance of approximately two centimeters from the edge. Allow a space of 1.5 cm between each line. For the "shaggy" front portion of the decorative pillow, we proceed as follows.
Step two
Using a sewing machine, sew a row of rectangular pieces of soft material, pressing them slightly in the middle, as in the following example:
And place them as follows under the foot:
We advise minimizing the space between the pieces if you want the finished pillow to be fluffier. The first stitched row looks like this:
Once the first row is sewn, fold it in half as the picture indicates, and gently smooth the frill to reveal the stitching marks for the second row.
Stitch on all the remaining frill rows.
Try stitching the frills in a checkerboard pattern, which involves sewing rectangular pieces of soft material in the second row along the first row’s gaps, to give the illusion that the frills are even thicker.
Step three
We are going to sew the sofa cushion right now. To accomplish this, fold the cushion’s front and back with the right side inside, then sew the entire perimeter, leaving a small opening for the holofiber to be stuffed inside.
After flipping the cushion over, firmly pack in the filler.
Close the last opening by hand using concealed stitches.
That’s all; the "shaggy" couch cushion is now available!

How to sew a bolster sofa cushion
You could learn how to sew a bolster cushion from a child! A minimum of time, tools, and fabric are needed; the task can be completed in no more than 30 minutes.
Sew a decorative bolster cushion: master class
Step one
Let’s first gather all the required equipment and supplies, specifically:
- a piece of fabric;
- ribbon with pompoms in the color of the fabric;
- zipper;
- holofiber or any other filler;
- sharpened scissors;
- sewing threads;
- ruler;
- tape measure.
Stage two
We will be sewing a pillow in this master class that measures 20 centimeters in diameter and 61 centimeters in length, but you can easily adjust the measurements if you’d like.
For the pillow’s ends and sides, we therefore cut out two round pieces. With seam allowances taken into account, the circle’s diameter should be 22 centimeters.
After taking a measurement of the circumference at the sides, we cut out the main piece of the bolster using the following measurements: width = circumference + 1 centimeter, length = 63 centimeters (seam allowances included). Zipper inserted along length.
Along the short sides of the bolster pillow’s main piece, sew a decorative braid embellished with pom-poms.
Insert the pillow into the side pieces after turning it inside out.
Reverse the pillow, then stuff it full of holofiber or any other type of filler.
This concludes the bolster pillow’s preparation!
We recommend sewing an inner pillowcase from a single-color natural fabric for the cushion to make washing it easier. In this instance, you should omit the step where you sew the ribbon and zipper in. We leave a tiny hole instead of the fastener, which we use to stuff the pillowcase and secure it with covert stitches. Now take a bold look at the cover we made earlier and place it on the pillow, enjoying the new addition.

How to sew a sofa cat pillow
Apart from its utilitarian and purely aesthetic attributes, this kind of pillow quickly becomes a family favorite! It’s not as hard as you might think to sew such a lovely sleeping cat, but it will take patience and focus. Are you prepared to try?

Stage one
Let’s first gather all the required equipment and supplies, specifically:
- cotton fabric of three different colors;
- a piece of fleece;
- interlining;
- sharp scissors;
- holofiber;
- pencil or piece of chalk;
- embroidery floss;
- two buttons;
- tailor"s pins;
- pattern.
Stage two
The pattern is printed out first. You can draw it by hand in any shape you like. Cut out each piece of the pattern as carefully as possible.
The body paper blanks are then applied to the chosen fabric, traced with a pencil, and cut out, making sure to leave a centimeter extra for seam allowance.
The incorrect side of the blank is placed on the interlining’s adhesive side, fastened with tailor’s pins, and then cut out. With the second body blank made of fleece, we proceed in the same way.
We removed the cat’s ears, tail, and paws.
To get the fabric to adhere to the interlining, we remove the pins and use a hot iron to iron the body’s two-layer blanks.
Stage three
Leaving tiny holes for turning the parts out, fold the blanks for the ears, paws, and tail in pairs, face inside, and sew them together using a sewing machine. Using curly scissors, we cut the stitched portions, and using regular tailors, we make tiny notches.
We stuff the blanks with holofiber after turning them inside out and ironing them. Now use a zigzag stitch on the machine to sew the holes. We fasten the resultant blanks to the front side of the kitten’s body with pins. We use a zigzag stitch to attach them to the body.
Sketch the kitten’s face as follows:
A piece of fleece (the back portion) should be placed on top and pinned in place. To turn the product inside out, we leave a small amount of space at the bottom when we sew the parts together. Using curly scissors, we trim the seam allowances, or we use regular scissors to make small notches.
After flipping the pillow over to face, iron it. Use hidden stitches to close the hole after stuffing it with holofiber.
For decoration, sew the buttons and upper legs to the body.
We use floss threads to embroider the nose and closed eyes.

How to sew a pillow for a sofa from scraps
Patchwork-constructed pillows are always the center of attention. Because they are fashionable and colorful, they will look great in any dull interior and add a lot of refreshment.
Sewing a decorative pillow using the patchwork technique: master class
Stage one
As is customary, we begin by choosing the required instruments and supplies, specifically:
- four pieces of colorful fabric;
- sewing threads in the same color;
- scissors;
- tailor"s pins;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- clothes cord.
We have included a pattern for arranging the leftover fabric below.
Step two
First, using the above pattern as a guide, cut out the fabric scraps. Place the components in the following order on the table:
Align the neighboring scraps so that they are face to face and secure with a pin.
Sew the components together. Every time, we begin by working with tiny components!
Before sewing the small squares to the large rectangles, turn them out.
Mark the triangle gaps with a ruler as follows:
Following the layout diagram’s instructions, stitch the triangle to the remaining blanks.
After that, sew all of the pillow’s blank pieces together.
This is how the product will appear on the inside:
This is the front side, as well:
Take the clothes cord and trim it with unused fabric to create the sofa cushion’s edging, as seen in the picture:
Take a step back one centimeter from the lace and sew a line parallel to it to begin sewing the piping around the edge of the product.
Make tiny notches so that the edging fabric is not overly stretched in the corners.
Trim the extra edging, then attach the ends together.
Stage three
We’ll tackle the decorative pillow’s back next. Sew two leftover pieces of the same fabric together, wrong sides facing, using a machine.
Stitch the piping where the fabric pieces meet, adding a line one centimeter away from the lace.
We round the pipe’s edge and fasten it with threads.
Stitch the piping on the front and back edges of the product.
This is how things ought to work out:
The pillow’s front and back pieces are now sewn along three sides starting from the wrong side.
Turn the pillowcase inside out, stuff it with holofiber, and use blind stitches to close the open edge. The accent pillow is prepared!
This is how the back side of it appears:

How to originally decorate a finished pillow
If you’d like to update decorative pillows yourself but don’t want to start from scratch when sewing a product, these easy hacks to completely change finished products will come in handy!
Method one: airy heart of roses
We will need a pillow, needle, scissors, and non-cut fabric for our work.
Cut out circles about eight centimeters in diameter from the chosen fabric. They don’t have to be identical; you can let them have a little variation in shape. To create a lush bud, we take a piece by the middle, gather it together to form folds as shown in the photo, secure it with a few stitches, and then sew another circle at the bottom.
Until the rose reaches the appropriate size, we keep sewing circles to it.
Follow these same instructions for the remaining roses.
Beginning at the heart’s outline, sew the flowers onto the pillow’s front side.
We place the components in a more ordered manner, with minimal space between them. We spiral slowly in the direction of the center. We conceal the tail and mend the thread. The sofa cushion’s ornamentation is complete!
Method two: application
It would appear archaic! But take a look at how, in just thirty minutes, a regular pillow was transformed! The pillow can be adorned with vibrant flowers, animals, hearts, or butterflies; achieving natural color is not at all required. Even the driest and rainiest autumns will feel a little cozier and more comfortable with this pillow.
Method three: ribbons
Any dull, plain pillow can be instantly transformed with a ribbon, whether it be satin or fabric! Try different bow widths and styles—it’ssimpleand entertaining!
Method four: buttons
Button sizes and colors, big and small, will always add flair to the completed pillow, especially if you use them to gather unique images.
Method five: pompoms and tassels
Pompoms follow the same guidelines as buttons. Try new things and be creative!:)
